Transcript

I’m Liz Kazandzhy, and you’re listening to the cozy little podcast “Latter-day Saint Book Nook,” where we talk about books from a gospel perspective. Whether fiction or nonfiction, religious or not, great books are like wells of wisdom just waiting to be drawn from, and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. So if you love books, and you love the gospel of Jesus Christ, you’re in the right place. Come and learn from the best books to help you live your best life!

Hey everyone! I am here to let you know that, as you probably guessed from the episode title, I will be taking a break from this podcast.

Now, there are a few reasons for this. For one, I want to finally start writing my next book, The Plan of Salvation from A to Z. So, as I’m sure you know by now, I’m the author of The Holy Ghost from A to Z, and ever since that came out, I’ve been wanting to start my next book—same format, different topic, about the plan of salvation. But I just haven’t had the time. And I thought I could, you know, multitask and write the book while doing the podcast, but unfortunately my brain doesn’t work that way—I just need to focus on one thing at a time.

So that’s one thing that’ll be taking a lot of my time. And the other thing is that I’m trying to get back into editing a little bit. I’m a freelance copyeditor, at least I was for a few years before switching my focus to writing and podcasting, and that’s something I want to pick up again for a while.

How to subscribe

So anyway, what does this mean for you? Well, unfortunately you’ll no longer get your weekly dose of Latter-day Saint Book Nook, at least for now. I for sure want to resume the podcast in the future—I just can’t say for sure when that’ll be. But the good news is that there are ways for you to subscribe so that you’ll be notified when I come back with season two. So to do that, just subscribe to the show in whatever podcast platform you use, and if you just listen on ldsbooknook.com, scroll to the bottom and click “Follow Latter-day Saint Book Nook.” Another thing you can do is find the Latter-day Saint Book Nook Podcast page on Facebook and like that page.

Now, if you are just finding this podcast, first off I’m glad you’re here! And second, feel free to just browse the existing episodes and listen to whatever piques your interest. The books and the lessons I’ve talked about are timeless, so no matter when you’re listening, you should be able to get a lot out of the episodes. And in fact, I wanted to do a little recap of the season, sharing my favorite 3 book episodes and my favorite 3 Holy Ghost episodes.

Favorite book review episodes

So here are the book episodes:

First, episode 1 – The Little Prince: How to Love “The Least of These” (Even When That’s Yourself). When I started the podcast, I knew I had to have an awesome first episode so that people would want to keep listening, so this is a classic episode to check out. It’s my favorite book, and I talk about having charity both toward others and toward yourself.

Next, I’d definitely recommend episode 18 – The Hiding Place: Miracles Haven’t Ceased! It’s a WWII memoir with incredibly powerful Christian lessons in it.

And finally, I’d have to say episode 13 – Charlotte’s Web: What a Spider Can Teach Us About the Savior, just because I really enjoyed finding those gospel treasures in that sweet book.

And just to mention a few others so you know what they’re about, episode 5 is about Ukraine (which I recorded at the beginning of the war), episodes 9 and 15 are great when you’re going through trials, episodes 11 and 20 are about parenting and family life, and episodes 22 and 24 teach wonderful truths about Jesus Christ.

Favorite Holy Ghost episodes

Now, as for the Holy Ghost episodes:

Episode 12 is a great one about how the Holy Ghost *Encourages* You. That’s where I shared a post I wrote about my mantra, “You’re human, not a hypocrite. God planned for this. Just learn.”

Next, episode 14 – The Spirit Conveys God’s *Forgiveness* because it’s one of the less-known blessings of the Spirit, and forgiveness is something we all crave.

And finally, I’d also add episode 16 about how the Spirit Expands Your *Gifts* and Talents, because I share a story there about what it was like to write the book when I had the Spirit with me versus when I didn’t.

Anyway, there’s just a lot of great stuff in this first season, and I’d highly encourage you to go back and listen to it all.

How to contact me

Lastly, I just wanted to remind you that if you’d like to contact me for any reason, please do! There’s a contact form on ldsbooknook.com, or you can just shoot me an email at liz@ldsbooknook.com. You can let me know what you think of the show, or you can suggest books for me to review in the future. Remember, they don’t have to be religious books per se, though they can be—they just have to have gospel lessons in them that I can kind of extract and talk about. So let me know if you have any book suggestions like that.

Well, I suppose this concludes season 1 of Latter-day Saint Book Nook! I hope you’ve enjoyed listening as much as I’ve enjoyed hosting. And in the words of Arnold Schwarzenegger, “I’ll be back”—sometime at least. Take care!

Thanks for listening to Latter-day Saint Book Nook, hosted by Liz Kazandzhy! If you enjoyed this episode and you’d like to support the podcast, please share it with others, post about it on social media, or leave a rating and review.
